Happy First Father’s Day!

In celebration of Clinton’s first father’s day, I thought it would be fun to surprise him with a little getaway that was long past due. We haven’t ventured out for a hotel stay since Cooper was born, so no time like the present. Saturday morning I had Clinton open his card and in there was directions to pack up the car….we’re headed out of town! I had already packed most of what we needed (so i thought). Making sure you have everything for the baby was a bigger task than expected. But…after an hour of gathering things, we were on the road. I told him to head south and then he guessed it must be San Diego. We enjoyed our drive down. Stopped off in Oceanside for lunch by the water. No better way to start off the holiday weekend than with fish tacos and a corona by the beach! Cooper was off to a great start….slept through most of lunch and then just sat there and entertained himself for the last 15 minutes or so while we finished up. He’s getting lots better with that these days. He has learned how to hit at objects, grab rattles or just stare up at the sky and make cooing noises to bide the time.

The crew exploring the Trial of 100 Giants

Sequoia National Monument

Summer, that magical time of year for road trips, camping, and visiting a National Park you haven’t been to yet. This past weekend, Clinton grabbed his bible study crew and headed up to Sequoia National Monument for a weekend with the boys.

Sequoia National Monument is best known for the huge Sequoia trees, but interestingly the park is a pretty amazing overview of the Easter Sierra climate and landscape. It took about 4 hours from LA to get to the park. After setting up camp, we all jumped in the 4Runner (one guy designated to the way back) and headed off on some dirt roads to do some exploring.

Memorial Day Camping Near Mammoth Lakes, CA

Better late than never I say and even though it was a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to do a quick post on our camping trip over Memorial Day up to Mammoth Lakes!

It’s a little early in the year for a camping trip in California, especially when you plan on staying at a campground that is 7,000 ft above sea level, but we tried our luck anyway and booked the LAST available spot in the Sherwin Creek campground just outside of Mammoth Lakes, CA. We left Santa Monica at 11am on Saturday and a short 6 hour drive later, if you take your time to enjoy the scenery of the Eastern Sierra scenic route, we pulled into the campground.

SJ and Clint head to Kernville for a Road Trip

Kern River Roadie

It’s not very often that we wake up on Sunday with nothing planned for the day. Yesterday just happened to be one of those days! With spring in the air, and a nip over Santa Monica, we decided to jump in the car and go for a good ol’ fashioned Sunday drive up to Kernville to check out the river and see some scenery. It took us about 3.5 hours one way to get there, and we spent a couple hours cruising up past Johnsondale bridge and R-Ranch in the Sierra’s before turning back do to closed roads that were snowed in. Here’s some pics of the fun!
