Summer finally came out to play

I realize that summer has been in full effect for many parts of the country for quite some time.  However, Southern California has been in a bit of a weird funk.  We’ve been waking up in the morning to overcast, marine layer 60′s that occasionally burn off later in the day (but more often we’ve been left with the cloudy mid-60′s funk into the evening).  Nobody seems to be able to explain what’s going on with the weather, chalk it up to global warming if you want, but just this past week we have started to see some clear 70-80 degree days – summer is back!

I was talking to Craig and Sienna up in Montana this week and they are both telling me that it’s “starting to feel a little bit like fall” up there.  A “little bit like fall” … it wasn’t even summer?!?!  In fact, I was waxing some surfboards this weekend and the sun wasn’t even out enough to warm the wax to help me get it off the board.  How in the world can it be 62 degrees and cloudy in SoCal in the middle of the summer and “starting to feel a little bit like fall” in Montana?!

On the bright side, we’ve been getting out of the house more in the evenings over the past month to enjoy an evening stroll.  The cooler weather definitely is welcomed at night, especially since we don’t have AC and it can get down right toasty in our apartment when the temps get up into the 90′s on those hot summer nights.

This coming weekend we’re planning to get down to San Onofre to do some surfing and soak up sun before we head out on our extended end of summer vacation stretch to Montana and then to Disney World (more on both next time around), till then – happy summer time from sunny SoCal!
