Happy Anniversary to us!

Wow, they were right … time flies when you’re having fun!  Just back from our 1 year anniversary getaway to Borrego Ranch Spa & Resort in Borrego Springs, CA!  We packed up the car Friday after work and arrived around 10:30 pm to the sweltering heat (102 degrees) of the desert.  We had a bottle of celebration champagne waiting for us in our room, which we enjoyed while searching for a cricket that had decided that the rafters of room was a nice place to call home for the evening (we had the grounds crew come up quick to make sure there wasn’t some mechanical issue going on because desert crickets sound nothing like the good ol’ crickets from back home)

After a nice sleep in the next morning, we wandered over for a nice breakfast and then off to the spa for a nice long couples massage (I’m telling you, those things are soooooooo good …).  Afterward we took a nice hot shower, slipped into our swimsuits, and headed to the pool for some relaxation in our own private shade cabana!  We attempted to read our books, but the massage and the afternoon sun got the best of us and we both slipped away into a nice long nap :)

Since the middle of the summer isn’t exactly prime tourist season in the desert, we were told we didn’t need to make dinner reservations ….’ just come on over an we’ll take care of you!’  So after a quick shower to freshen up, we headed over to have a glass of wine and some dinner.  2 hours later … we finally were seated (turns out there was a big birthday party that had shown up from San Diego and they were a weeeeee bit understaffed).  SJ had salmon with roasted red potato, roasted  beets, and fresh grapefruit and I had the tenderloin with cabernet reduction – both were great – and we finished the meal off with a generous slice of black and white cake from the house pastry chef (yum!)

The next day we got up late (around 10), then wandered over for some breakfast and coffee. After the meal we decided to opt for a late check out so we could relax for a little bit longer.  We wandered around the grounds for a bit (see the gallery for pics) and then lounged out in the room and enjoyed a movie in the tranquility of the air conditioning.

The drive back to LA was quicker than I had expected, only 3.5 hours!  By the time we got home we were ready for our traditional post road trip pizza (pepperoni – brooklyn style) and of  course we watched out wedding video and enjoyed the last of our wedding cake!
